On
April 7, 8 and 9, 2010, a special "Train the Trainer"
program was conducted in Livonia to begin the process of
operation of the new ladder truck. Two NYS Certified Instructors
were brought in to conduct the program. Between 13-20 members
of the department participated in the 2-1/2 day program.
Upon completion of training the tower ladder will be put
into service.

On
March 27-28 Chiefs Sexton and Miller traveled to Pearl River,
NY, to accept delivery of Ladder 258. Driving and operation training
will begin immediately. Upon completion of personnel training,
258 will be placed into active service.

March
29, 2010 Lakeville Fire Department hosted a joint drill
at Hampton's Corners Training Facility. Lakeville, Livonia,
Hemlock and Conesus Fire Departments participated. Evolutions
involved engine company and ladder company operations. The
primary objective as described by Tom McGory was to develop
teamwork between these departments in basic firefighting
operations.

Sunday,
March 13, 2010, Lakeville Fire Dept. hosted an icewater
rescue skilled training program. Conesus, Hemlock and Livonia
Fire Depts. participated with Lakeville at the NYS boat
launch on Conesus Lake. Refresher training included proper
techniques to extract a victim from icy water, the use of
exposure suits, floatation devices and rescue tools.

Sunday,
February 28, 2010, Livonia Fire Dept. hosted a joint drill
with Conesus, Hemlock and Lakeville Fire Depts. Livonia
responded to a simulated fire at the Livonia Central Intermediate
School. Upon arrival Chief Sexton and Assistant Chief Dan
Miller were informed that the school had been evacuated
and three students were missing. Incident Command was established
in the main lobby, staging and EMS rehab were established
in the adjacent cafeteria. Search teams in full protective
equipment and blacked out masks of SCBA searched the entire
facility and rescued and removed the three missing students.
Exterior crews stretched fire suppression hoselines and
laddered the exterior of the building. Exceptional support
was provided by school staff and administrators.

Livonia
Fire Department held its annual Award Dinner February 9,
2010. Service awards were presented to members recognizing
their length of time in the Fire Department. Unit Citations
and Valor Awards were presented to members who participated
in recent emergency rescues and responses.
On
November 29, 2009 the Department responded to a report of
a boat overturned and people in the water on Conesus Lake.
On arrival members found Tyler Breen had swum to shore and
alerted authorities to the emergency on the lake. Members
launched rescue boat 250 and Don Ray and Rich Alexander
proceeded to the middle of the lake and rescued two adults
and their dog.

Saturday,
January 23, 2010 a joint extrication drill was hosted by
Conesus Fire Department. Participating crews from Livonia,
Lakeville and Hemlock were faced with a vehicle rollover
some distance off the road in southern Conesus. Crews successfully
extricated two simulated victims from the overturned vehicle.
Area searches were conducted by personnel from all departments
to verify no other victims were ejected from the vehicle.
The condition of the vehicle and entrapment of the driver
required use of both hydraulic spreads and rams. EMS support
was provided by Livonia Ambulance.
