At 06:10
hours Thursday, September 10, 2009, Livonia Fire Department
responded with one engine company and six interior firefighters
to a structure fire on Curtis Road in Canadice. The company
was assigned to fire suppression on the D side of the structure
under the command of Richmond Chief, Rick Frost. Mutual
aid assistance was also provided to Richmond by Bristol,
Springwater, Hemlock, and West Bloomfield. Suppression was
complicated by a lack of hydrant system. The primary function
of the other mutual aid companies was a tanker operation
to provide water supply.

Thursday,
July 2, 2009 Livonia Fire Department was dispatched to fill
in one engine company at the East Avon Fire Hall. Shortly
after arrival that company was relocated to the scene of a
barn fire at the Mulligan property at 5403 Barber Road. Upon
arrival Livonia personnel were detailed to assist East Avon
in fire suppression and Engine 254 became part of the tanker
shuttle to supply water for fire suppression. The cause of
the fire was determined to be a lightning strike. Three barns
were destroyed but the property owner and his family and employees
were able to save some 72 heads of cattle. The company was
released at approximately 2000 hours that evening.

The
afternoon of March 4th, Livonia Fire Department was called
to a motor vehicle fire with a person trapped. First responding
personnel were able to suppress the fire with hand extinguishers
and rescue the trapped driver before the first engine company
arrived. Assistance for the rescue was provided by personnel
from Lakeville Fire Department as well as members from Livonia.
The rescue was accomplished without protective equipment
and two firefighters were transported to the hospital with
burn injuries. The patient was stabilized and transported
to Strong Memorial Hospital burn unit by the Livonia Ambulance.

LIfe
Guard Systems presented a two-day surface ice rescue training
program for members from Livonia, Lakeville, Shortsville,
Hemlock, and a Fire Department outside of Bradford, Pennsylvania.
All attendees successfully completed the program and earned
certifications as "Surface Ice Technician" or
"Operations." The program trained all personnel
in the techniques of pole and sled rescue.

On
February 22nd, 18:30 hours the Conesus Fire
Department was dispatched to a reported
tree fire. Upon arrival first units found
the fire had extended into two cottages.
Mutual aid was supplied by Livonia, Lakeville,
and Groveland Fire Departments. Extreme
low temperatures and heavy winds from the
southwest made initial attack and extinguishment
difficult.

Friday
night February 13th, 19:53 hours, the Department
was disptached for a porch fire at 4425
East Lake Road, Lot #3 in Livonia. First
units on scene found the porch heavily involved
in fire with extension into the trailer.
Engine 254 laid a supply line from a hydrant
on East Lake Road and crews attacked the
fire with a large caliber line. Upon initial
knockdown an interior attack was launched
and the fire extinguished. Mututal aid was
supplied by crews from Lakeville, Hemlock,
and Ladder Co. from Geneseo. Conesus Fire
Department filled in Livonia's hall and
responded to a motor vehicle accident at
Big Tree and Woodruff Roads during the course
of their fill-in.

Livonia
Fire Department received an alarm at 8:52
pm Thursday, February 5th for a barn fire
on South Livonia Road. First in units found
a multi-story, historic structure built
in 1830 fully involved. Mutual aid was provided
by Lakeville, Hemlock, Conesus, Richmond,
East Avon and Geneseo Fire Departments.
Quick action by arriving units to protect
an exposure on the north side of the barn
prevented serious damage to the neighbor's
home.

The
Department answered an alarm for a structure fire
2:53 pm on January 25th at
3421 Poplar Hill Road. Lt. John Ellis, first officer
on the scene, reported a working fire and ordered
the incoming engine company to attack the fire with
a 2-1/2" hand line. The line was extended into
the breezeway that connected the garage to the main
portion of the house. Fire extension was cut off
at this point and minimal damage occured to the
living quarters. Mutual aid was provided by Lakeville
Fire Dept. and East Avon Fire Dept. Conesus Fire
Dept. provided a fill-in at Livonia Fire headquarters

Tuesday
morning, December 2, 2008, Livonia Firefighters were
dispatched to a reported structure fire at Sargeant's
Iron Works, 7114 Richmond Mills Road. Firefighters
found a fire burning in the wall near the wood furnace
stovepipe in the rear of the structure. The fire was
quickly contained and extinguished. Also responding
to the scene were Livonia EMS, Hemlock and Lakeville
Fire Departments.

Fire Training Facility outside Canandaigua.

On
Saturday, July 19th, 2008, the Department
responded to a mutual aid request from Lima
for a fire in a wheat field on Poplar Hill
Road. GT253 and Car 25 responded and were
ordered to attack the fire on the south end
of
the field.

Sunday,
July 13, 2008, Livonia Fire Department responded
to a reported stucture fire on Decker Road.
The initial sizeup provided by Medic 74
indicated smoke coming from the eaves with
a fire on the second floor. Chief Whiting
requested engine companies from Conesus
and Lakeville. The truck company from Geneseo
responded as part of the automatic mutual
aid agreement. An attack line was advanced
from 254 and ventilation accomplished by
Livonia firefighters. The cause was determined
to be accidental in nature and the Red Cross
assisted at the scene.

On
July 5, 2008, Engine 256 responded to Hemlock
for a motor vehicle accident with a person
reported trapped. Livonia assisted Hemlock
in the extrication of the patient. The lone
driver was transported to Strong Memorial
Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Wednesday,
June 25, 2008, Livonia Engines 254, 256
and Squad 251 responded to Lima on a mutual
aid request for a barn fire at Bears Playgrounds.
The Livonia Department was part of a number
of companies that responded to 4 barns that
were fully involved. The fire was caused
by an electrical malfuntion in one of the
center barns. Livonia Officers provided
command positions for staging, operations,
and water supply.

In
the early morning hours of Monday, June 23,
Livonia Fire and EMS responded to a reported
vehicle fire in the driveway at 5210 South
Livonia Road. Livonia Fire Chief Lari Whiting
arrived on location and reported a working
fire in the engine compartment. The fire was
quickly extinguished. There were no injuries.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office also
responded.

At
4:42 PM on Sunday, June 22, Livonia Fire,
EMS, and Livingston County Sheriff Deputies
responded to an ATV accident on Federal Road
just north of Big Tree Road in the town of
Livonia. The accident occurred when the driver
and passenger apparently swerved to avoid
a dog. They lost control of the vehicle and
were thrown from it. A female passenger was
transported to Strong Memorial Hospital in
Rochester via Mercy Flight Central with multiple
injuries. The male driver of the ATV was also
transported to Strong by Livonia EMS.

On
January 19, 2008, the Livonia F.A.S.T. Team
was requested by Geneseo Fire Department to
the scene of a structure fire. The Team provided
protection and rescue function for the firefighters
operating on the interior of the building.
No injuries occurred and the fire was brought
quickly under control by Geneseo and York
Fire Departments.

Also
on January 8, 2008, at approximately the same
location on Poplar Hill Road, a motorcyclist
lost control of her cycle and was found injured
on the roadside. The patient was stabilized
and airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial
Hospital. Assistance was provided by Geneseo
Fire Department Ambulance and Monroe County
Sheriff's Deputies.

The
Department responded to a 2 vehicle accident
at the intersection of South Lima and Poplar
Hill Roads on January 8, 2008. One vehicle
left the highway and ended well off the road.
Hydraulic tools were necessary to extricate
the injured driver. Three patients were transported
by Livonia EMS to Strong Memorial Hospital.
