Livonia Fire Department Fire Prevention Programs

Fire prevention programs are an extremely important part of the Department's service to the community. Each year educational programs are presented to preschools, Kindergarten through 6th grades and Junior High School students.

The program is directed by Past Chief Dave Peck. He has developed a number of presentations that include "Stop, Drop and Roll," "Crawl Low in Smoke," and firefighter familiarization.

Members of the Fire Department with the assistance of the Explorers have brought "Freddie the Fire Truck" to many varied audiences in and around our fire district.

"Freddie the Fire Truck" was purchased in 1999 through the generous donations of the following agencies:

The fire prevention team has organized local participation in the EDITH program (Exit Drills In The Home). Local media attention has been brought to this activity.

Counseling sessions are also provided for juvenile fire starters. This is part of the rehabilitation program for those children that have been involved in prior incidents.

The Department has provided free smoke detectors to needy families in the area and has even assisted with the installation of the units.

Fire extinguisher training for local citizens is provided at various times during the year. Special drills and staff training for the local nursing homes, senior citizens complex and facility for handicapped adults are held annually.

The Fire Department presents fire prevention programs at the following activities: West's Shurfine Fall Harvest Days, the Hemlock Fair, and Livonia Community Days.
